Tommi Parzinger 1953 Silverplate 3 Pcs Coffee Pot Set

A fine circa 1953 silverplate (original silverplate in perfect condition -- exceedingly rare) 3 piece coffee set by Tommi Parzinger for Dorlyn Silversmiths of New York, the rosewood handled pot with removable lid on stand with burner insert, the 2 handled sugar bowl with removable lid, the creamer echoing the same design as the pot.

Parzinger (b. 1903 in Munich, Germany, died in U.S. 1981) was a prolific and versatile designer of furniture, fabrics, wallpapers, lighting fixtures, tableware, porcelain and many other items including handwrought silver and silverplate. Parzinger's designs from each period can be distinguished by their marks. In 1952-53 Parzinger designed a number of objects that were made in silverplate for Dorlyn Silversmiths, 383 Lafayette Street, New York, New York.

The 'R' here in the mark probably refers to Otto Rasmussen, a Dane who executed silver for Parzinger. (See pages 338-39, 'Modernism in American Silver - 20th Century Design" by Jewel Stern. The book is the catalog for an exhibition that travels around the U.S. The show is in Reno, Nevada February 11 to May 14, 2006 then travels to Dallas Museum of Art, June 18-September 24, 2006. Other stops are in Miami and Memphis.)

Heights: coffee pot on stand 14 1/4 inches; creamer 5 1/8 inches; creamer to finial on lid 4 1/4 inches. No monogram. Marked: Made by Dorlyn Silversmiths and a conjoined "RP" in which the "R" is reversed.
