Antique Gorham Pair of Candlesticks 1868 Sterling Silver Figural

Circa 1869 sterling silver candle sticks with 3-dimensional figures and birds by Gorham of Providence, RI, the base in the shape of a table with a superbly cast, young putti in a reposing position, with long shaft, the top candle container with finely cast, applied winged phoenix-birds facing outward.
Total weight 12+ oz. Height 7 inches. Engraved 'S' monogram. Marked as illustrated in photo

These candlesticks are illustrated in the renowned and important book 'Gorham Silver 1831-1931' by Charles H. Carpenter, Jr. on page 69. Carpenter states: "The small candlesticks...with the cast phoenix-bird decorations above and the putti on the base, are typical examples of Victorian whimsy."
